Our Dwelling Place

29 Mar 2020

Welcome

Welcome to our Sunday service!

This Sunday City Church are meeting virtually! We think it's vital as God's people to keep meeting together in whatever way we can. We need to be teaching, encouraging, comforting and spurring each other on to live for Jesus in testing and unpredictable times. At 10:40AM, do join with us as we learn, pray and sing together. There is a children's talk, a sermon, a prayer time, and several songs to help us respond to what we're hearing. If you're part of one of our small groups working through the service together, you'll be meeting with your group at 10:30AM to chat and catch up before joining the service at 10:40. You'll also be meeting virtually after the service to discuss and pray together. Your group leader will guide you through the timings and discussion questions. We're praying that God will use this virtual time together to encourage and build us up in very concrete ways!

children's talk

If you come to City Church, see this week’s activity pack in your email from Rachel.

Where did Jesus go?

How did Jesus’ friends feel about this?

Is it good that Jesus is in heaven?

Who will help us to understand the Bible?

Jesus is the King- what does this mean for us?

You might have seen bad things happening
On the TV news
You might be worrying bout the world
And wonder what will happen to you
Well put your trust in God alone
Cos he's still sittin' on his mighty throne

The Lord is King
He's gonna look after everything
Everything
The Lord is King
He's gonna look after everything
Every single thing in this world
Cos this is his world

You might get sad and wonder
Why there's so much pain
Why we let the same mistakes
Happen over and over again
Our sinful ways will always fail
But God and his ways will prevail (because...)

The Lord is King
He's gonna look after everything
Everything
The Lord is King
He's gonna look after everything
Every single thing in this world
Cos this is his world

You kings be wise, you rulers
Hear the Lord's decree
He sees, he knows, he'll judge
In fearsome majesty
But blessed are all who find their place
In the shelter of his grace (because...)

The Lord is King
He's gonna look after everything
Everything
The Lord is King
He's gonna look after everything
Every single thing in this world
Cos this is his world
He rules the world
Yeah this is his world

VERSE 1
What love could remember no wrongs we have done
Omniscient, all knowing, He counts not their sum
Thrown into a sea without bottom or shore
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more

VERSE 2
What patience would wait as we constantly roam
What Father, so tender, is calling us home
He welcomes the weakest, the vilest, the poor
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more

VERSE 3
What riches of kindness he lavished on us
His blood was the payment, His life was the cost
We stood 'neath a debt we could never afford
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more

CHORUS
Praise the Lord
His mercy is more
Stronger than darkness, new every morn
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more

sermon

A Prayer of Moses, the man of God.

90 Lord, you have been our dwelling place
    in all generations.
2 Before the mountains were brought forth,
    or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
    from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

3 You return man to dust
    and say, “Return, O children of man!”
4 For a thousand years in your sight
    are but as yesterday when it is past,
    or as a watch in the night.

5 You sweep them away as with a flood; they are like a dream,
    like grass that is renewed in the morning:
6 in the morning it flourishes and is renewed;
    in the evening it fades and withers.

7 For we are brought to an end by your anger;
    by your wrath we are dismayed.
8 You have set our iniquities before you,
    our secret sins in the light of your presence.

9 For all our days pass away under your wrath;
    we bring our years to an end like a sigh.
10 The years of our life are seventy,
    or even by reason of strength eighty;
yet their span is but toil and trouble;
    they are soon gone, and we fly away.
11 Who considers the power of your anger,
    and your wrath according to the fear of you?

12 So teach us to number our days
    that we may get a heart of wisdom.
13 Return, O Lord! How long?
    Have pity on your servants!
14 Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love,
    that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
15 Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us,
    and for as many years as we have seen evil.
16 Let your work be shown to your servants,
    and your glorious power to their children.
17 Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us,
    and establish the work of our hands upon us;
    yes, establish the work of our hands!
